K9 CleanCoats took a trip to Sweden

On the 25th November 2016, K9 CleanCoats took a trip to Sweden to promote the potential for warm, clean, dry dogs.

Fortunately, we were able to get a direct flight to Sweden from Edinburgh. Travelling is so much simpler from Scotland if one can avoid Heathrow! The chilled Prosecco aboard SAS was first class, as was the black bread sandwich.

We were given a very warm welcome at Stockholm Airport by Anita & Margaritte from the Svenska rashundutställningsklubben SRUK, who were holding the all breeds dog show on the Saturday.  View their website here.

After we’d loaded all our luggage & the giant K9 CleanCoats photo display board amongst the dog crates in the back of Margarette’s small car, we set off for Uppsala.  As soon as we started chatting the international language of dogs & dog showing, we were no longer strangers.

We were checked into the warm, comfortable & friendly Akademi Hotel right in the centre of this beautiful & ancient university city, overlooking the Cathedral.  Our hosts, Anita & Ake, were very generous with their hospitality in their beautiful home, where we eat each evening.

Every building we were in was really warm, due to the fact that Sweden has their own cheap nuclear power. The pavements were lathered with grit & salt in preparedness for their bad winter.

On the Friday, we had a day off from K9 CleanCoats & were given a guided tour of the Cathedral & the city on a very wet day.  We were treated to a long & decadent lunch in a typically Swedish fish restaurant.

Day of the show

On Saturday 26th, we were driven to a large equestrian centre at Surahammar, nr Vasteras & the weather had turned very frosty.  The car park was muddy & icey & the equestrian centre ground surface was unforgiving to dogs with beautiful, clean show coats.

So many of us spend hours bathing & trimming dogs at home, then despair at the state of them by the time we’ve actually got them ringside! Dog show people the world over struggle with venues like this, which is why so many people have K9 CleanCoats to walk their dogs into shows & wear to stay clean, warm & dry until they go in the ring!  Learn more about K9 CleanCoats here.

I had posted on the Club’s Facebook page that we would be there. Many exhibitors were interested in looking at the photos of all the different breeds on the display board & reading the adverts & customer reviews.

As I went around the show promoting the coats, I was in my element when I found black tri-coloured English Springer Spaniels & American Cockers…..

I found a native breed I had never seen before, a Scannia Terrier.  It is a Swedish/Danish farm dog, similar to our Jack Russell.

I saw some really lovely dogs that day & met the friendliest dog show people I’ve met at any dog show anywhere in the world.  I hope very much that I have another opportunity to attend another dog show in Sweden.
